Let there are X litres of 60%alcohol solution and Y litres of 20%alcohol solution X + Y = 40 - (1) 0.6*X + 0.2*Y = 0.35*40 - (2) (2)*5 : 3X + Y = 70 -(3) (3) - (1): 2X=30, X=15 - (4) Put (4) into (1): Y = 25 So, there are 15 litres of 60%alcohol solution and 25 litres of 20%alcohol solution
