1. Sam is 6 years older than Peter . Peter is x years old . 2 years later , the square of the age of Sam will be 32 times that of Peter . Find their curent age by simultaneous equations.

Let the current agd of Sam be x yrs old and that of Peter be y yrs old. x = y + 6 --- ( 1 ) ( x + 2 )^2 = 32 ( y + 2 ) --- ( 2 ) Put ( 1 ) into ( 2 ), ( y + 6 + 2 )^2 = 32 ( y + 2 ) ( y + 8 )^2 = 32y + 64 y^2 + 16y + 64 = 32y + 64 y^2 - 16y = 0 y ( y - 16 ) = 0 y = 0 ( rejected ) or 16 x = y + 6 = 16 + 6 = 22 So the current of Sam is 22 and that of Peter is 16.
